A superior thiol-reactive fluorophore for studying protein conformational changes. The fluorescent compound was used to monitor conformational changes underlying voltage-sensing in the Shaker potassium channel and to report subtle differences between aqueous positions in purified preparations of the β₂-adrenergic receptor.
