3-Nitrotyrosine is formed by the reaction of reactive nitrogen species with Tyr in proteins in vivo under a variety of pathological conditions.
This chromophoric amino acid is incorporated as quencher in FRET substrates, in combination with the fluorophore Abz. 3-Nitrotyrosine can also serve as a spectroscopic probe for investigating protein-protein interactions.
