Pramipexole dihydrochloride exhibits negligable affinity for D1 and D5 receptors. Pramipexole has been found to have neuroprotective effects independent of its dopamine receptor agonism. It reduces mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and inhibits the activation of apoptotic pathways.
